Welcome to the UMass 4-Hour Carrels
Reservable carrels are located on the 10th and 16th floors of the W. E. B. Dubois Library.
Carrels are available for the full day only (with the hours of 9am-4pm) during the month of January 2024.
These carrels are available to UMass students only.
Please go to the Learning Commons desk on the Lower Level to check out the key to the carrel for your reservation.
- You will need to present your UMass UCard when checking out a key.
- Keys will be available for checkout 10 minutes before the reservation time.
These carrels are in high demand. Please make sure to reserve a carrel.
You can make two carrel reservations per week (the week is Monday through Friday).
You must use an email address that ends with "umass.edu" in order to use the reservation system.
Carrels
All carrels have a desk, one chair and one power outlet.
Food and drink is not allowed in these carrels.
Please note:
- Patrons may not reserve rooms using multiple email addresses.
- Library staff reserve the right to deny patron use of the rooms if it appears they are abusing the room reservation system.
- Please check your email after making your reservation. A confirmation email will be send to you to confirm the reservation. The reservation will not be completed without confirmation.

- Who can reserve a 4-Hour Carrel?
- Students with a valid UCard.
- How far in advance can I make a reservation?
- Reservations can be made up to two weeks in advance.
- What if I am late for my reservation?
- Reservations may be canceled if person with the reservation in their name has not arrived by 10 minutes after the start of the reservation.
- How do I reserve a room?
- Click on a green block to make a reservation.
- Green - Available to reserve
- Blue - Not available
- Red - Reserved
- Yellow - Waiting for confirmation
- Click on a green block to make a reservation.
- I don't need the reservation I made. What should I do?
- If you no longer need a reservation, please cancel using the link in the email that you received confirming your reservation.
- I reserved a room but someone else is in there. What should I do?
- If someone is occupying a room that you have a confirmed reservation, please notify Learning Commons staff for assistance.
