Shaming into Brown: A Conversation with Stephanie Fetta

Shaming into Brown: A Conversation with Stephanie Fetta

Stephanie Fetta is the new Director for the Center for Latin American, Caribbean & Latino Studies at UMass Amherst. Winner of the 2019 MLA book award, Professor Fetta's monograph Shaming into Brown: Somatic Transactions of Race in Latina/o Literature uncovers a new analytical lens Dr. Fetta identifies as the soma, loosely defined as the gestural body. Her current research considers possible forms of latinidad south, north, and within the US border. She studies Mexican indigenous poetry of the Oaxaca diaspora in Southern California in relation to and against articulations of US latinidad.
