iNaturalist for Community and Citizen Science

iNaturalist for Community and Citizen Science Online

The iNaturalist app is a free tool for engaging with the nature that is all around us. The app records the date, time, and location you snapped a pic of the plant, animal, fungi, etc. that caught your attention. It also asks you to ID your organism, as close to the species level as you can. If you don't know what you're looking at though, don't worry - the community of users works together to identify species. iNaturalist is one of many apps that lets anyone participate in an international Community and Citizen Science effort to track and map the wildlife that exists everywhere, even in the most urban environments.

This workshop is meant to familiarize you with the app itself, not to go outside and use the app. By the end of this workshop you will have explored the app's functionality and helped to ID at least one organism.

First in a series of workshops to prepare attendees to participate in the City Nature Challenge 2021: Pioneer Valley.
