WBCN and the American Revolution: Live Q&A with Producer & Director Bill Lichtenstein
WBCN and the American Revolution tells the story of radical underground radio station WBCN-FM, set against the dazzling and profound social, political, and cultural changes that took place in Boston and nationally during the late 1960s and early 70s.
The story is told through the actual sights, sounds, and stories of a compelling cast of characters who connected through the radio station, exploding music and countercultural scenes, militant anti-war activism, civil rights struggles, and the emerging women's and LGBTQ liberation movements.
The film will be available to stream through Amherst Cinema between 10/16 and 10/29. View the film on demand.
Then on 10/21, the UMass Amherst Libraries Special Collections and University Archives will host a live Q&A with producer and director Bill Lichtenstein, as well as Tommy Hadges and Norm Winer, two of the original WBCN DJs who appear in the film. Lichtenstein amassed a treasure trove of material when researching his documentary and worked closely with the Special Collections to preserve and make his landmark collection available.
