Exhibit: Medicinal Plants & Plant Patents: An Exhibit Exploring Medicinal Plants and Their Intersection with Plant Patents In-Person
Plants surround us in our daily lives. We appreciate them for a multitude of reasons, including beauty, food, air purification, erosion control, carbon capture and...health benefits.
"Medicinal Plants & Plant Patents" highlights 15 patented plant varieties which include medicinal attributes. Browse the selected images and related patents. Learn about the medicine these plants generously offer us. Explore the intersection of the natural world and intellectual property.
While plant patent advocates laud how the system encourages research and innovation, critics of the system raise issues of accessibility and, in the case of medicinal plants, the responsibility to honor the history of traditional and cultural knowledge. This exhibit brings the tension of these values into relief.
We invite you to also visit The Herb Library on Floor 3 of SEL.
