SUMMARY:Indigenous Archival Activism: Mohican Interventions in Public History and Memory
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Rose Miron\, Vice President for Research and Education at 
 the Newberry Library in Chicago\, will discuss her book Indigenous Archival 
 Activism and the more than decade-long reciprocal relationship with the 
 Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohicans that brings light to their Historical 
 Committee's fight to recover and rewrite their history. The Committee is 
 comprised of a group of Mohican women who have collected and recognized 
 historical materials since 1968. Indigenous Archival Activism\, along with 
 on-going efforts of the Tribe\, showcase how tribal archives can be used to 
 shift how Native history is accessed\, represented\, written\, and 
 controlled and the importance of building reciprocal relationships with 
 Indigenous nations. Rose will be joined by Sabra Thorner\, Associate 
 Professor of Anthropology who will moderate a panel discussion after the 
 talk\, and Christine DeLucia\, associate professor of history and Williams 
 College. The book talk will take place at the Freidmann Room in the Keefe
