Beyond the Impact Factor: More Metrics that Matter Online
When you’re choosing a journal, do you feel tied to the journal’s impact factor? Are there other metrics to consider? The impact factor was originally designed by Eugene Garfield for librarians to use. In recent years, librarians have created several additional metrics to evaluate publishers and journals, and society publisher are sometimes rating higher in these metrics. Will these additional metrics influence promotion and tenure? Time will tell. In the meantime, let’s talk about journal selection.
